Abstract

Robert Boyle, the famed ‘father of chemistry’ and founding member of the Royal Society of London was the Christian virtuoso par excellence. And yet throughout his adult life he was plagued with doubts and a troubled conscience. Using hitherto unexamined manuscript evidence the renowned Boyle scholar Michael Hunter will shed new light on the religious life of this icon of the Scientific Revolution.
