Laureate Research Program in International History Seminar, Thursday 3 October 2019

“China and the Future of the International Order

The international order is in crisis. At the centre of debate is China’s role and view of its place in the world. Recently, Chinese government representatives have argued that China believes in the international order, while, by contrast, the US has become a voice challenged key international institutions. This timely panel brings together experts in international politics from Australia and China to discuss growing concerns about China’s rise and implications for the international order. Among the questions we will tackle are whether China poses a challenge to the international order, or is it its anchor? Are we facing a new bi-polar order, what will it look like?  What is at stake, and are economic rather than political interests driving the future?

Featuring

  • Hua Zheng, Professor of International Affairs, Shanghai Jiaotong University.
