Film Screening: Οι Παραθεριστές της Ιστορίας (Inhabiting Summers of History)

After the sell-out presentation of the award-winning movie Inhabiting Summers of History we are privileged to announce a second Sydney screening to be held on Tuesday, March 21.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session during which the audience will have the opportunity to pose questions regarding the film and Kythera’s past to the filmmaker, Yiorgos Didymiotis, and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s archaeologist responsible for Kythera, Dr Kyriaki Psaraki. A short animated film I am the Lion of Kythera will also be screened.

Both film director (Yiorgos Didymiotis) and archaeologist (Dr. Kyriaki Psaraki, Hellenic Ministry of Culture)) are touring three major cities in Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra), sponsored by the Nicholas Anthony Aroney Trust and the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens, to present two award-winning film productions of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture: the short animated film I am the Lion of Kythera and the documentary Inhabiting Summers of History. The short film is in English, and the documentary is in Greek with English subtitles.

Synopsis of Inhabiting Summers of History: This award winning documentary, an initiative of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, follows the journey of the return of antiquities from the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus to the newly renovated Archaeological Museum of Kythera. At the same time, the film invites us on another “journey” of personal reflection filled with questions about our own relationship with history and the past and our place within a continuously transforming historical context.

Synopsis of the short animated film “I am the Lion of Kythera”: A10-minute mixed media documentary shown as part of the exhibit of the Archaic marble lion in the Archaeological Museum of Kythera recounts the adventures of this emblematic sculpture, starting from the 19th century when it was located on the ramparts of the castle in Chora until its placement in the current exhibition.
